Electric SUVs are growing fast in Canada. The 2024 Jaguar I-PACE and the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV are two premium options that combine style, performance, and technology. Both bring all-wheel drive confidence and plenty of features for drivers. This comparison looks at how each model performs so you can decide which one fits your lifestyle best.
The Jaguar I-PACE arrives as one well-equipped R-Dynamic HSE trim. Its clean Atlas Grey grille, body-coloured finishes, and satin paint choices create a fresh and refined look. The EQE SUV is larger and has a more traditional Mercedes style but can feel busy with its optional Hyperscreen that stretches across the dash. The I-PACE keeps things simple and modern, which feels more relaxing for city drives.
Under the hood, the I-PACE uses a 90-kWh battery with two motors for 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque. It moves from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.8 seconds. The EQE 350 SUV makes 288 hp and needs 6.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Even the stronger EQE 500 is only slightly quicker at 4.9 seconds despite a larger 90.6-kWh battery. Jaguar delivers sports car energy as standard without paying for an upgrade or AMG trim.
The I-PACE provides an estimated 357 km of driving range. It adds about 101 km in just 15 minutes on a 100-kW DC fast charger. The EQE 350 offers 407 km of range but takes longer at the station even with its 170-kW charger because it needs 32 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 per cent. The AMG model drops to 378 km of range despite its high power. For daily drives, the I-PACE feels balanced and consistent.
Inside, the I-PACE seats five comfortably with 1,040 mm of front legroom and 505 litres of cargo space behind the seats. Fold them down for 1,163 litres. The EQE SUV has slightly more cargo space at 520 litres, but its Hyperscreen and multiple menu layers can overwhelm drivers who just want simple controls. Jaguar keeps its cabin driver-focused and intuitive so you spend less time tapping and more time enjoying the drive.
The I-PACE comes standard with a full suite of driver assistance features in its single trim. The EQE SUV earned five stars in Euro NCAP testing but has not yet been tested by IIHS or NHTSA in North America. Consumer Reports expects it to be less reliable than other new cars. Jaguar's proven layout and single trim make it easier to know exactly what safety features you are getting in traffic or on winter highways.
