Jaguar has given us the first real look inside the upcoming Type 01, and the cabin makes one thing clear. This is not meant to look like every other luxury car.
Type 01 interior introduces a dramatic new design direction built around four individual seating spaces, unusual materials and technology that stays out of sight until it is needed. The Type 01 itself is an all electric luxury four door GT and is listed as coming soon on Jaguar's Canadian website.
The first thing your eyes are drawn to is the long central spine running through the entire cabin. Rather than using a conventional centre console that ends around the front seats, Jaguar extends this structure from front to rear.
The result is four clearly defined individual spaces for the occupants. Jaguar says this design idea began as a concept car vision but is being brought into the production vehicle.
A brass inspired finish appears along the central spine and is repeated across the tops of the doors. Jaguar Leaper details are worked into these pieces, giving the cabin decoration without filling it with unnecessary visual clutter.
One of the more interesting decisions is what Jaguar has not done.
Instead of building the dashboard around several large displays, the Type 01 uses a slim dashboard and digital technology that is intended to appear when required. Jaguar describes the approach as technology on demand. Hidden compartments and concealed features are also part of the cabin design.
A digital ClearSight Rear View Display sits centrally near the base of the windscreen. Jaguar positions it at roughly the same height as the exterior door mirrors, which is intended to help the driver keep attention closer to the road ahead.
Jaguar says the interior colour palette takes inspiration from travertine stone and artisan textiles. Rather than simply relying on glossy surfaces to communicate luxury, the Type 01 focuses heavily on texture, proportion and the way materials feel inside the cabin.
The driving position is deliberately low. Jaguar describes the space as wrapping around the driver to create a feeling of confidence while maintaining the relaxed character expected from a grand touring car.
For drivers accustomed to large digital dashboards, this quieter approach could feel surprisingly refreshing.
The dramatic interior is only one side of the Type 01 story. Jaguar has also been testing prototypes in Arctic conditions as cold as minus 40°C.
The electric GT is being developed with more than 1,000 PS, a three motor all wheel drive system and Intelligent Torque Vectoring. Jaguar has also tested its ThermAssist thermal management technology, which is designed to reduce the energy required for heating and support range in cold conditions.
Those details are particularly interesting for a future electric luxury car that could spend winters around Ottawa and elsewhere in Canada.
Jaguar has not yet published Canadian trims or a complete standard and optional equipment list for the Type 01. Canadian pricing has also not been announced.
The company is expected to reveal the vehicle fully in New York on October 6, 2026. Until then, features shown in the preview should not automatically be treated as confirmed standard equipment on every future Canadian configuration.
The Type 01 cabin feels interesting because Jaguar is not simply adding more technology and calling it luxury. It is experimenting with space, materials and the way technology fits quietly into the driving experience.
